- According to id Software, Quake, like id Software’s other releases, was to be the first of its kind and nothing else was be even approximately similar to it. On February 24, 1996, Qtest was released. It was available on fourteen mirror sites all activated simultaneously. The server software was one of the major tests of that release.
The people who like to play games with over the top themes. Even Quake Champions has a marketable audience. It's the fans of the classic quake games, Quake 3 and hero oriented shooters. If there was a single-player Quake 5 who would they market that game to? The first Quake was a hodgepodge of ideas, with a focus on the 3D tech they had just made.

Quake is a series of first-person shootervideo games, developed by id Software and, as of 2010, published by Bethesda Softworks. The series is composed of the eponymous game from 1996 and its nonlinear, standalone sequels which vary in setting and plot.

Quake storyline[edit]
The game's original plot focused on the player character, later known as 'Ranger' in Quake III: Arena, who travels across alternate dimensions to stop an enemy code-named 'Quake'. The game takes place in a Lovecraftian setting with a mixture of dark fantasy and science fiction.[21][22]

Quake II storyline[edit]
An in-name only sequel that shifted the series to the science fiction genre, Quake II and its sequels chronicle the war between humanity and the cybernetic alien race known as the Strogg.[23]

Arena series[edit]

With a focus on competitive multiplayer, Quake III Arena and its successors de-emphasised the setting of the first two games while still retaining continuity with them and crossing over with id's Doom franchise. Quake Champions, in particular, is heavily influenced by the mythology of the original game.[24]

- Unreal - a rival franchise developed by Epic Games that began in 1998.
- Call of Duty - An Activision-published game franchise that runs on a modified version of id Tech 3, dubbed the IW engine. Like Quake, multiplayer functionality would become the primary focus of the series by the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 in 2018.

After nearly a decade in development, Doom is now available on store shelves and nostalgic FPS fans are loving its mixture of modern design and retro sensibilities. Apple silver wireless keyboard. So the developers at id Software are probably feeling pretty good about themselves. But that hasn’t stopped the company from going on a hiring spree.
More than a dozen job openings at id Software were recently added to Bethesda’s Careers page, and once again, they’re offering prospective employees the chance to work on “legendary game properties like DOOM and QUAKE.” Obviously, this isn’t a guarantee that Quake 5 is in the works at id, but the last time the developer went on a similar headhunting operation was in 2013, about a year before they debuted Doom to a packed house at QuakeCon 2014.

Of course, this is probably just the regular employment churn that occurs at all companies, combined with an HR department too lazy to write up a new job description. But after the amazing return of Doom (and Wolfenstein before it), I am ready for more Quake too.
