Solid modeling software creates a virtual 3D representation of components for machine design and analysis. A typical graphical user interface includes programmable macros, keyboard shortcuts and dynamic model manipulation. Solidworks ($3,500 or more - Windows) and AutoDesk Inventor ($450/year - Windows) Professional grade 3D modeling/CAD software; both Inventor and Solidworks are typically used by professional design engineers. With that said, they are top of the line 3D design tools. Solid modeling can provide this representation but parametric solid modeling provides the ability to use dimensions, properties, and relationships to define, manipulate, and drive the geometry of the model. Essentials of Parametric Solid Modeling describes how CAD systems have gone from computerized drawing boards to parametric solid modelers and describes the major functions of CAD systems. Advanced 3D modeling software—the future of how you design. Creo Parametric has the core 3D modeling software strengths you’d expect from the industry leader, along with breakthrough capabilities in additive manufacturing, model based definition (MBD), generative design, augmented reality, and smart connected design. Streamlined workflows and an intuitive user interface complete the picture.
Parametric is a term used to describe a dimension’s ability to change the shape of model geometry as soon as the dimension value is modified. Parametric modeling uses the computer to design objects or systems that model component attributes with real world behaviour. These models use feature-based, solid and surface modeling design tools to manipulate the system attributes. Parametric modeling allows the designer to define entire classes of shapes, not just specific instances.
BPB Publications brought out two books by Prof. Sham Tickoo covering the concept of parametric solid modeling through different software.
Autodesk Inventor Professional 2017 for Designers
Autodesk Inventor developed by Autodesk is one of the world’s fastest growing solid modeling software. It is a parametric feature-based solid modeling tool that not only unites the 3D parametric features with 2D tools but also addresses every design-through-manufacturing process. The drawing views that can be generated using the software include orthographic view, isometric view, auxiliary view, section view, detailed view and so on. The adaptive technology of the solid modeling tools allows the users to handle extremely large assemblies with tremendous ease. Also, the bidirectional associative nature of this software ensures that any modification made in the model is automatically reflected in the drawing views. The textbook is written with an intention of helping the readers effectively use the Autodesk Inventor Professional 2017 solid modeling tool. The mechanical engineering industry examples are used as tutorials to ensure that users can relate to the knowledge of actual mechanic industry designs. Notepad pc software. CATIA V5-6R2016 for Designers
CATIA, developed by Dassault Systemes, is one of the world’s leading CAD/CAM/CAE packages. Besides providing an insight into the design content, the package promotes collaboration between companies to provide them edge over their competitors. In addition to creating solid models, sheet metal components, assemblies, 2D drawing views can also be generated in the Drafting workbench of CATIA. The textbook provides simple and clear explanation of tools used in common workbenches of CATIA V5-6R2016. It helps to create, assemble and draft models. The book provides a detail description of various workbenches such as DMU Kinematics workbench, Free-style workbench etc. Also, a chapter on Generative Shape Design has been added in the book to help users to create hybrid designs.
